概要
This study examines the impact of coffee certification on deforestation and forest conservation in Ethiopia. Data were collected in 2005 and 2010 using remote sensing to examine the changes in forest areas. A propensity score matching estimation was then used and found that coffee certified forests were statistically significantly less likely to be deforested compared to non-certified areas. The study concludes that certification has a great effect on forest protection, as they decrease the likelihood of deforestation by 1.7%.
