概要
In response to the ongoing encroachment of extractives industries (here defined as the mining, forestry, hydrocarbon, industrial agriculture, and hydroelectricity sectors) into the territories of Indigenous Peoples around the world, this paper aims to map relevant literature, and highlight best practice for Indigenous Peoples' participation in extractives industry certification programmes and standards. The authors present the results of a literature review, a survey of key informants, and case-studies, highlighting the importance of Indigenous Peoples' free, prior, and informed consent (FPIC). The authors intend for the findings to provide guidance to certification programme managers, extractives operators, and auditors in order to improve Indigenous People's participation in sustainability standards for extractives.
