The paper examines how consultation processes with local forest communities, especially pygmy hunter-gatherers is changing in the context of new international procedures such as those laid down by the Forest Stewardship Council. This ethnographic study focusses on the Congo Basin and investigates how the requirement of FPIC is implemented in newly granted timber concessions in DRC, Congo and Gabon.
